Heather Vale Talks About Interviewing Myths
In todays training lesson at Profit With Interviews, Heather discusses some of the interviewing myths that continue to exist to this day.
Heather has spent over 15 years interviewing and working with other successful interviewers – and she really knows what she is talking about.
In my own experience – a lot of the myths (or ’stories’) that I heard were just that, myths or stories – and I had to dig a lot deeper and find out for myself what the truth really was.
And… it wasn’t easy…. a lot of what I discovered was very hard won.
Myths that continue to exist around Interviewing include:
Having a list of questions that you ’stick’ to for your interview
Is it beneficial to have a list of pre-prepared questions for your guest? Or do you ‘fly by the seat of your pants’?
There are many answers to this question – some of which depend on your level of skill, your guests comfort level and your level of knowledge on the subject matter.
In Interviewing Unwrapped, Heather speaks on this particular myth at great length about this issue with her guests …. and provides some wonderful insight into the issue – both through her expert interviews and in the workbook.
Is an Inteview really just a Conversation?
Heather will share that an interview is so much more than a conversation…. and explain why.
Calling an interview a “conversation” is fine for marketing purposes, but as an Interviewer we need to think of it as much more – to ensure we get the content we’re looking for.
Heather does a great job explaining why a conversational interview is just so much more than a conversation – and her expert interviewee’s have an opinion too!
The Introvert vs. the Extrovert
Does being an Extrovert benefit you when doing expert interviews? The answer might surprise you…..
From what I understand, Heather may believe that being Introvert is more beneficial! Certainly, both personality types have some advantages and disadvantages when it comes to interviewing, but introverts are natural listeners – another skill that is a benefit when you want to Profit With Interviews.
Whether your customer you are an introvert or an extrovert, you can be a GREAT interviewer…
These are just some of the myths I heard and had to make my own determination on. Heather, her Interviewing Unwrapped training and expert interviews really brings clarity to the questions (and more!) .
